# Recently(ish) - I was diagnosed with [[Complex Trauma]] only thanks to [[personal knowledge management system]] use - Around that time, I had also been let down by my "chosen family" - I was struggling to take care of my kitty with a chronic condition - I tried hiring help that caused more problems than anything - My experience with veterinarians is that they are not reliable - At my [last job](https://www.linkedin.com/in/micseydel/) (working with the [former CTO of Evernote](https://hackernoon.com/livongos-cto-dave-engberg-on-servant-leadership-communicating-with-executive-peers-more-620a2a92b203), ironically enough) I did **data engineering** for the first time - All of this combined resulted in me wanting to have a reliable way of relying on other people less, while mitigating the burden that results in # Longer ago - [[my dad]] - set a good [[Externalized cognition|externalized cognition]] example, using - - paper and pencil (and straightedge and whatever else) for [drafting](https://www.britannica.com/topic/drafting), first with paper and pencil and later with CAD - a [Rolodex](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolodex) - a [PalmPilot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PalmPilot) - and making sure I had - access to his computers, **even if I broke them sometimes (or frequently)** - a laptop in 7th grade - a [Palm Treo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treo_650) in high school (before the iPhone was released)
